Money collectors in Cairo, photo by Mika Elgendi, www.cairoconfident.com

Living in older parts of Cairo? These three men will pass by you on monthly basis

I see you enjoyed my previous article about men coming to your door with an unusual job roles :) , so here goes this trio, that pays visit to almost everybody's house on monthly basis.

Zebala Guy

One of those things, I feel relieved about since I live in Egypt, is that we no longer argue about who is taking the trash out. The trash takes itself out without us noticing. It's not a black magic, it's a zebala man! Every floor in our building has a trash can, where we put all our waste and it's being collected on regular bases. You might wonder how do we pay for this service. Very old style. Once a month zebala man comes to knock on our door and collects his monthly salary. (Reminder for myself: write an article about importance of keeping a stash of cash at home at all times!)

Kahraba Guy

This guy is not my favorite to be honest. Don't get me wrong, we have a very lovely Kahraba man. The only thing that bothers me, is that he comes to collect money for electricity and I'm always holding my chest and waiting for our total, as it's like on a roller coaster with him. Once we pay peanuts, another time he hands me a bill that obviously belongs to casino in Las Vegas. And don't ask me how they do the calculations, it's a mystery to me till today. Btw, did I mention "kahraba" means electricity in Arabic ? :)

Ghaaz Guy

Read as French "R" plus English "us" . Ok, it's a gas guy. He also comes to collect money on monthly basis. I don't worry much about that, cause it's one of those super cheap things in Egypt, compering to other countries. There is an other issue with this one. He has to enter my kitchen and read the meter on the wall. If you have followed me for a while, you know I have a toddler and cook a lot. If you have ever visited me on the top of that, you know I have always major explosion in my kitchen and 3 sinks worth of dishes (even though I have "just" 2 sinks, so imagine that mountain above them) and I always feel like a housewife failure in front of him. I know, some of you might comment: "why don't you hire a maid?" We do have a helper at home few times a week and even she cannot keep up with us :) We are just way too fast hahaha.

Hope you are enjoying my new post. This is all for today guys. TTYL
